Vygotsky Blocks Demo

A simplified version of the Vygotsky blocks task. Blocks vary in color and shape (distractors), but category labels depend on height and size. Try to infer the rule.

What to do: For each block, choose one of the four labels (LAG, MUR, BLK, CEV) from the dropdown. Colour and shape are red herrings — the correct label depends on the block's height and size. Once you think you have worked out the rule, click Reveal rules to check.

Think about: How many blocks did you need to sort before you spotted the pattern? What strategies did you try along the way? Vygotsky used this task to study how people move from trial-and-error guessing to systematic, rule-based thinking — a central process in concept formation.

Click a block and choose a label.
