Luria-Style Categorization Task

Based on classic examples from Luria's Central Asia research. Choose which item does not belong, then compare category vs functional reasoning.

What to do: For each set of items, select the one you think does not belong and click Check. After answering, read both explanations — the category-based answer and the functional alternative.

Think about: Did you lean toward category reasoning (grouping items by type) or functional reasoning (grouping by how things work together in real life)? Luria found that formal schooling predicted which style people preferred — an early example of how culture and education shape cognition.
